Memories

I'll never forget the wonderful Christmas when Papa & Grandy took us to Hawaii in 1969--all 31 of us!  It was such a great trip.

I remember:
  • putting makeup on Mary Jane on the bus
  • body surfing
  • our bus driver, Ray
  • the sugar cane fields
  • seeing Stephen & Sandra's home
  • learning to say "mele kalikimaka hauoli makahiki hou"
  • playing touch football on the beach on Christmas Day with my cousins and uncles
  • Grandy & Papa telling us they were going to sell their house and sharing memories of it
  • John eating black sand
  • tasting poi--yuck

And, the best part for me, as a junior in high school, was going back to school in January with a TAN!  Silly, huh?

Now that I am a grandmother (Nana), and we take our whole family on trips (22 of us now), I realize all that is entailed, and I'm in awe at Grandy and Papa's patience and energy and love for family.  I admire them both.

  1. Remember when John ate black sand on the beach in Hawaii?
